Ocean State Chronicle is committed to getting the record right. When we make a meaningful factual error, we correct it clearly and transparently.
Our Standard
Accuracy does not end at publication.
Ocean State Chronicle reviews credible concerns about the accuracy of its published reporting. That review may include checking the original story, notes, recordings, public records, source material, and any documentation provided by the person raising the concern.
When a material factual error is confirmed, OSC will correct the article and disclose the correction in a manner appropriate to the significance of the error. A request for a correction does not automatically establish that the original reporting was inaccurate.
Publication Labels
How changes are identified.
Different changes serve different purposes. OSC uses the label that most accurately describes what changed and why.
Improving precision or context
A clarification adds context or improves wording when the original report was not necessarily inaccurate but could be understood more precisely.
Adding new information
An update adds relevant information that became available after publication, including new developments, responses, records, or confirmed outcomes.
Explaining a substantial change
An editor’s note provides additional transparency when a major editorial issue, decision, or change requires more explanation than a standard correction notice.

Something in our reporting does not look right?
Use the correction request form to identify the published statement you believe should be reviewed. The form will open with the proper newsroom route and response prompts already selected.
Include these details
- The article headline or direct link
- The statement believed to be inaccurate
- The correction or clarification being requested
- Supporting records, sources, or other evidence
What happens after a concern is submitted.
Reviewed
OSC examines the article, the specific concern raised, and the reporting material available to the newsroom.
Verified
Records and supporting evidence are checked. Relevant sources or parties may be contacted when additional verification is needed.
Corrected
If a material error is confirmed, the article is corrected and an appropriate correction notice is added for readers.
